Boredom?

Boredom can be beneficial, for all ages. The Community Playthings Article talks about the benefits of boredom for young children and how parents can help steer that boredom. As a parent of teenagers, I can attest to seeing the benefits of boredom.

My children have embraced some of their previous short-lived hobbies. They have been sewing, bike riding, building with Legos, gardening and reading. They also commented that this is the first time in their lives they have "time to do anything they want." I know they'd rather be at their sports activities, or events with friends. I know they'd even rather be at school. But right now, we are all trying to embrace a little boredom.

Good luck with your children, in whatever stage they are in right now. Good luck with yourselves. Be kind, be gentle. ~ Claire
